Duomo rooftop tickets

The Veneranda Fabbrica sells half a dozen tickets that reach the roof, and two that do not. Here is what each one costs, what it lets you into and when a tour is the better buy.

The cheapest official ticket that reaches the Duomo roof and the cathedral together is the Duomo Pass Stairs at €22 in 2026. The same pass with the lift costs €26. Guided tours on Viator start at $48 for an hour on the roof and $56 for the cathedral and the roof, which works out at roughly $20 to $30 more than the official ticket for the same visit.

Prices below come from the Veneranda Fabbrica's concessions page and its 2026 sales conditions, which list what every ticket includes. The Fabbrica has run the cathedral since 1387 and is the only official seller.

The quick answer

The Duomo Pass costs €26 with the lift and €22 on foot, and covers the cathedral, the terraces, the Duomo Museum and the archaeological area. Terraces-only tickets cost a little less. The Culture Pass (€15) does not include the roof. Under-6s go free and ages 6 to 18 pay reduced prices. Official tickets cannot be refunded; every tour on this site can, up to 24 hours before.

How much are Duomo rooftop tickets in 2026?

€26 for the Duomo Pass with the lift and €22 on foot, at full price. Both include the cathedral, the terraces, the Duomo Museum and the archaeological area.

Every official ticket, full price, as the Veneranda Fabbrica lists them for 2026. The terraces column is the one most people miss: the Culture Pass and the Duomo and Museum ticket never go up on the roof.

The terraces-only tickets are sold on the official ticket shop but their price is not printed on the Fabbrica's information pages; city guides such as MilanoFree quote about €16 on foot and €18 by lift. For a few euros more, the Duomo Pass adds the cathedral and the museum, which is why most people buy it.

Is the lift ticket worth €4 more?

Only if stairs are a real problem. The lift saves about 200 steps on the way up, but it stops at the first level, and everyone walks the last flights and the whole way down.

The official access rules (article 2.8) are blunt about it: the lift reaches the first level, the second level is reached only by stairs, and the descent is only by stairs. The first level sits about 31 metres up; the central terrace, the highest point visitors reach, is at about 45 metres, according to the Fabbrica's terraces page.

Tour operators put the climb after the lift at around 50 steps (Wanderinitaly) to 75 (Veditalia). The lift holds seven people, so at busy times the stairs can be the faster way up. Our lift or stairs guide walks through both routes step by step.

What is the difference between the Duomo Pass, the Combo and the Culture Pass?

The Duomo Pass is the full set: cathedral, roof, museum and the archaeological area under the square. The Combo drops the archaeological area. The Culture Pass drops the roof.

  • The Duomo Pass includes the excavated Baptistery of San Giovanni alle Fonti under the cathedral steps, built in 378, where St Ambrose baptised Augustine in 387. If both the Duomo Pass and the Combo are on sale at the same price, take the Duomo Pass.
  • The Duomo e Terrazze ticket covers the cathedral and the roof only, for visitors short of time.
  • The Culture Pass (€15) is for people who don't want to climb: the cathedral, the museum, the archaeological area, the church of San Gottardo in Corte and the Crypt of San Carlo.
  • The Duomo + Museum ticket (€10) is the cheapest way inside. The museum closes on Wednesdays, when the cathedral alone costs €8.

Combined tickets are valid on the date you choose and the following day, with one entry per site. That matters: you can climb in the morning and see the cathedral the next afternoon on the same pass.

The roof is full of corners like this one. A Duomo Pass gives you two days to come back for the rest.

Is the Duomo Fast-Track ticket worth it?

On a busy summer weekend, yes. The €32 Fast-Track Pass buys a reserved security lane and quicker access to the terraces. It does not skip the security check itself.

The sales conditions describe fast track as a reserved lane with quicker access to the terrace entrance, through the door at the far south end of the facade, and add that all visitors go through the same security rules. The pass also includes the museum, San Gottardo, the archaeological area, the Crypt of San Carlo and a kimono-cape to cover bare shoulders. It is sold seasonally, so you won't always find it.

For €6 more than the Duomo Pass Lift that is a fair deal from April to September. Outside the peak months, a 9 am slot on an ordinary pass gets you up just as fast.

Are there reduced or free Duomo tickets?

Children under 6 go free, ages 6 to 18 pay roughly half, and visitors with disabilities enter free with one companion.

Reduced tickets are sold for young people aged 6 to 18 at about half the full price. Under-6s pay nothing but still need a free ticket for the timed slot. The Fabbrica's accessibility page gives free entry to people with disabilities and one companion. Wheelchair users can reach the first terrace only, by the south lift between 10 am and 5 pm.

Other discounts are narrower: holders of the Lombardy Museums Subscription, FAI and ICOM cards go free, and a few partner cards get cut prices, all listed on the concessions page. The Duomo Museum is free on the last Sunday of the month.

Where should you buy Duomo rooftop tickets?

Online at the official shop, ticket.duomomilano.it, or at the two ticket offices on the square. Tickets from unauthorised sellers can be refused at the door.

The official offices are Ticket Office 1 in the Sala delle Colonne at Piazza del Duomo 14/A, with vending machines, and Ticket Office 2 inside the Duomo Museum in Palazzo Reale, Piazza del Duomo 12. Both close 70 minutes before the complex closes. In high season the office queue alone can eat half an hour, so buy online.

The official shop sometimes holds you in an online waiting room at busy times. Be patient with it rather than buying from a stranger in the square: the sales conditions say tickets from unauthorised resellers can be refused. Viator tours are sold by licensed operators who book official tickets for you.

Read the small print before paying. Official tickets are not refundable; you can change the date up to one working day before, within three months of purchase. The booked time on a Duomo Pass is the time you start the climb, with 30 minutes of tolerance either side.

How much more does a guided tour cost than the official ticket?

About $20 to $30 more for the same visit, a little more for longer formats. You pay for the guide, the timed tickets and the planning, not for a shortcut.

The euro prices convert at roughly $1.15 to the euro in 2026, so the €26 Duomo Pass Lift is about $30.

When is a tour the better buy than an official ticket?

When the official slots are gone, when your plans may change, or when you want the stories. Every tour here cancels free up to 24 hours before.

Three cases. First, sold-out dates: in summer and on holiday weekends the popular morning slots can sell out days ahead, while tour operators book their tickets well in advance. Second, flexibility: an official ticket can only be moved, never refunded, and a tour refunds in full up to a day before. Third, the content. The roof is a forest of 135 spires and more than 3,400 statues, and without someone pointing at them most people walk past the best ones.

If none of that applies, buy the Duomo Pass, take the first slot of the day, and spend the savings on lunch in the Galleria. Timing advice is in the best time to visit, and the 2026 opening hours in the hours post.
