Wanderinitaly · Piazza del Duomo
A licensed Wanderinitaly guide meets you on Piazza del Duomo, takes you up by lift and spends about 50 minutes with you among the spires and statues. Choose it for a small, unhurried rooftop visit, with time to stay up there afterwards.

Wanderinitaly starts under the arches outside the Mondadori store at Piazza del Duomo 1, with ten minutes on the facade and the history. Then comes the bag check and the lift. One guest's advice: the meeting spot isn't right at the cathedral, so start looking before you reach it. Another lost a few minutes hunting for the sign shown in the confirmation email, so keep that picture handy.
Up top you get about 50 minutes with the guide on the first level, among the flying buttresses and some of the more than 3,400 statues, then a climb of nearly 50 steps to the central terrace at 45 metres. Guests say they could stay on the roof as long as they liked afterwards. The way down is on stairs, and guests report it brings you out through the back of the cathedral: you see a little of the interior, but there's no guided visit inside.
At $57 it's $9 more than Veditalia's 1-hour rooftop tour for a similar visit, with groups capped at 20 instead of 25. Against a terraces-only lift ticket, which costs a little less than the €26 Duomo Pass in the official shop, you pay well over $30 for the guide. And count the stairs honestly: one guest with a knee problem counted 90-plus steps after the lift and 180-plus on the way down.

★★★★★The rooftop tour of the Duomo was positively dazzling. The combination of artistry, the sheer volume of spires, and the care devoted to their design and placement was beyond our wildest imagination. One cannot capture this experience by simply looking upon from street level.
★★★★★Wonderful guide, fascinating look at the rooftops and the perfect amount of time. This is a must do. We are a family of five with kids raging from 9 to 13 and everyone loved it.
★★★★★Fantastic views beautiful architecture. At 75 I climbed up to the rooftop had to stop for breath at the last about 20 steps but it was an achievement for me.
★★★★★It was the perfect length for our short stay in Milan. We got access to the roof and learned about the history in less than one hour. The guide was very knowledgeable. There are a lot of steps but it is worth it!
