Crown Tours · Piazza del Duomo
A Crown Tours guide spends about an hour with you inside Milan Cathedral, and your ticket also opens the Duomo Museum and the church of San Gottardo in Corte. Choose it if the interior matters most, and tick the rooftop option if you want the lift to the terraces too.

Crown Tours meets in front of the Mondadori Megastore on Piazza del Duomo. The coordinator wears a purple Crown Tours T-shirt or jacket, or holds a purple flag. After security you get about an hour inside with a guide and an audio system: the building history from 1386, the statues, the windows and the art. Guests mention a guide who brings an iPad to show what you can't see from the floor.
The base price, from $36, covers the guided cathedral plus entry to the Duomo Museum in Palazzo Reale and to San Gottardo in Corte, the old Visconti court church with its brick bell tower behind the Duomo. Those two you visit on your own afterwards. The museum is closed on Wednesdays, so pick another day if you want it. The rooftop by lift is an option you choose at booking; on that version guests report going up after about an hour inside.
How it compares: the official Duomo and museum ticket costs €10 on the Veneranda Fabbrica's price list and includes San Gottardo, so without the roof you pay about $25 for the guide. With the roof, measure it against the €26 Duomo Pass Lift. For a guided roof as well as the interior, the Veditalia Super Saver at $56 is the simpler buy. This one wins if the rooftop is a maybe, or if you care more about the art than the view.

Past the ticket queue to the bag check, which everyone passes.
History, art and the details you'd miss, with an audio system so you hear every word.
If you picked it: the lift to the first level, a few dozen steps to the central terrace, stairs down.
Visit the Duomo Museum and the church on your own. The guide doesn't come with you.
★★★★★The guide was very knowledgeable, providing just the right amount of information. I would not have had nearly as good an experience had I not chosen the guided tour. Being able to skip the line and get on the elevator without waiting was worth the price all by itself.
★★★★★Our guide, Marcella, was fantastic very knowledgeable, kind, and engaging throughout the tour. She used an iPad to show helpful visuals that made the history come alive.
★★★★★The tour and history was amazing, about an hour inside before going up to the rooftop. Even with the fast pass the rooftop was slow to get all the way around and up (there are stairs to get to the final upper level).
★★★★★Well run, great communication and fantastic guide. [...] the roof was really stunning - I’m pretty afraid of heights and it was worth it … you don’t have to look down … and I didn’t
